Dr. Nil Satana is a Visiting Associate Professor at the CIDCM, Department of Government & Politics at University of Maryland, College Park. She is currently working on a coauthored book manuscript contracted by Cambridge University Press on religion and conflict. Dr. Satana received her B.A. from the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey and her M.A. & Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science at the State University of New York (SUNY), Buffalo. Her research interests include identity politics, religious/ethnic extremism and terrorism, democratization and civil-military relations and third party interventions in civil conflicts. Nil Satana has published several book chapters as well as articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the Comparative Political Studies, Terrorism and Political Violence, Armed Forces and Society and Turkish Studies. Dr. Satana is currently writing an undergraduate textbook and a manuscript on research methods for social sciences, contracted by Rowman & Littlefield, forthcoming in 2018 and 2019. Nil Satana was a START grant-holder funded by the Department of Homeland Security for her project with Johanna Birnir titled “One God For All? Religion and Group Radicalization.”
